Meet Becca Cooper, our Senior Copywriter at image.works! She grew up in Burr Ridge, Illinois, and earned a BA in Creative Writing and Psychology. She has skillfully applied her writing skills at image.works for the last five years. When Becca isn’t in the office, she enjoys reading, writing, drawing and playing video and board games, especially Dungeons and Dragons.
Describe what you do on a day-to-day basis.
I write copy for clients based on their direction, edit proofs and provide training for new copywriters. Copywriting may entail writing from scratch, editing what the client sent over or organizing and editing pre-written samples to fit the piece.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy writing in general – when I was younger, I always said if I could get a job in writing, I’d be happy! But also, writing something that a client is happy with is rewarding to me. I’m always glad when someone likes what I’ve written
(or at least, the piece that I did the writing for; it’s a team effort, after all!).
How has image.works helped you grow?
I’ve developed a keener eye for marketing since starting here, both in terms of copy and graphic design. I’ve even been noticing more proofing errors in unrelated ads from other companies! I can’t fix those, though…
Any interesting work-related or client success stories?
In my first-ever Search Engine Optimization (SEO) project I was in charge of rewriting part of a client’s website – a huge undertaking. The client was thrilled with my work, and we were able to improve their SEO score on those pages by a lot!
Favorite place to travel to in Wisconsin?
Currently, it’s Kenosha to visit the Renn Faire there. My friends have been visiting me for the last couple of years once a summer, and we all go to the Faire together. It’s a lot of fun! VERY crowded, though…
What is the most “Wisconsin” thing about you?
I LOVE cheese. I definitely favor sharp cheddar, but once I sampled a 7-year gouda, and I want to go back.
Secret talent or something about you that would surprise people.
I haven’t done much of it recently, but I know how to sew, and I’ve made nerdy costumes and stuffed animals for myself before. I’ve even worn said costumes to anime conventions, ha-ha, though I haven’t been to a convention since the pandemic started. I was never, you know, one of those top professional costumers, but I’m proud of the work I can do. Plus, I love stuffed animals, and they make great gifts if I have the time!
The most admirable characteristic a person can/should have.
Kindness, but without losing one’s boundaries. Being nice to your friends, being nice to strangers at the grocery store – in a cruel world, small acts of kindness can be a light in the darkness. But don’t become a doormat!
Words to live by.
“Normal is average, and average is boring.” That’s something my dad used to say, and it’s nice to keep in mind if I get a bit self-conscious about being too “weird”!
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
I’ve been to Europe a few times, and honestly, it’s hard to choose. Being around such history outside of the United States is just gorgeous. I can recommend Rome/Italy for history lovers (check out the bone museum!) and Norway for nature lovers! (Make sure you visit Norway in the summer, though!)
